YCHIOW believes that young people deserve to be able to access high quality youth work services that will make a positive contribution to their lives both now and in the future. We have designed our training programme to enable participants to build a solid understanding of youth work; its values and principles. Our programme provides opportunities to share and develop ideas, to explore good practice and to move forward with work already being done.
We offer both an open-access training programme and an in-house service. Information about both of these training options can be found on this page including details of 'The Basics', our youth work induction programme and our new NOCN Level 2 Award in Youth Work Practice which is a nationally recognised youth work qualification.

Development Programme Timetable
Option 1, Our Open Access Programme (You Come to Us)
Our fun, relaxed sessions offer workers a chance to explore the key concepts and ideas of youth work, develop further skills, knowledge and experience to help develop their work with young people and build relationships with other organisations doing similar work.
Child Protection Awareness
CHANGE OF DATE: 11th February 2012, 10am-4pm
An introduction to Child Protection covering basic principles, knowledge and understanding. This session covers potentially emotional subject areas such as Child Abuse. Session delivered by YCHIOW staff.

Dealing with Negative Behaviour
12 May 2012, 10am-4pm
Introduces a range of approaches for supporting young people to moderate and improve their behaviour when attending your club, group or project. Session delivered by Tony McBarron of Progress Though People

Introduction to Risk Assessment
16th June 2012, 10am-12:30pm
An introduction to the principles and practices of Risk Assessment focussing on the youth club environment and exploring approaches to working safely with young people.

First Aid Training from Red Cross
21st April 2012, 9:30am-4:30pm
Basic 1 Day First Aid training to equip you with essential skills for those times when you are the first person to have to deal with an accident, illness or injury

Option 2, In-House Training (We Come to You)
We also provide a wide selection of courses in-house for you and your team. Sessions can be delivered at a time and date that suits you and in a venue close to home. Each session lasts between 2.5-3 hours (although extended sessions are available for most of the topics listed).

NEW! NOCN Level 2 Award in Youth Work Practice
From early 2012 we will be running the NOCN Level 2 Award in Youth Work Practise. This is a nationally recognised youth work qualification and part of the new Qualification Credit Framework (QCF) Scheme.
About the Qualification: The NOCN Level 2 Award in Youth Work Practice has been developed and designed to ensure that people who are working or wish to work in youth work settings have access to the necessary training and qualifications and are able to progress onto further qualifications. It is a Nationally Recognised Qualification and is part of the new Qualification Credit Framework (QCF)
The Award is structured around the suite of values which distinguish youth work from other,
sometimes related activities involving young people. The core values of youth work are at the
heart of the qualification and are linked into the National Occupational Standards (NOS) for
Youth Work.
The course is designed to enable youth workers to develop a sound working knowledge of
youth work practice and an awareness of the local, social and political context within which
youth work activities are undertaken. In addition, youth workers will be required to demonstrate
a commitment to the values and principles which underpin and support all activities across
youth work.

Booking, Terms and Conditions
COSTS
Our programme is for those working with young people in an informal education setting such as a youth club, group or project.
We have designed our programme to make available to you regular and affordable opportunities. We aim to provide youth workers with the chance to gain and develop the skills necessary to help them do their job.
Option 1
The cost for attending sessions falling under Option 1 (You Come to Us) is as follows:
Members: £7.50 half day / £10 full day
Non-Members: £20 half day / £30 full day
First Aid for Members: £40
Fist Aid for Non-Members: £65
Options 2
In-House Training: We want to make our training as affordable and accessible as possible and in some cases it is possible to provide some training to our members at no cost. Where there is a cost for training we can support you to identify appropriate funding.
NOCN Level 2 Award in Youth Work Practice
As this course leads to a nationally recognised youth work qualification there is a higher charge for participants but this charge is still subsidised for YCHIOW members. See the information sheet for more details.
ADDITIONAL BOOKING INFORMATION
Full payment and a completed booking form must be received by the YCHIOW office no later than 2 weeks before the date of the course. Bookings will not be accepted without payment.
All training charges are non-refundable unless a minimum of 2 weeks notice is given in writing that you wish to cancel, (other than in exceptional circumstances in which case you must telephone the Chief Executive on 01962 852307).
Non-attendance without notification will incur a charge of £45 per participant (£80 for First Aid courses).
If we have to cancel a course a credit note will be issued for those participants registered to attend the next course within the period of one year.
Please note that a separate booking form for should be used for each course you wish to book.
